What is a pathogen? How do organisms protect themselves from pathogens?

Learning Intentions

• We will learn to identify and define a pathogen.

• We will learn how plants and animals use non specific responses to foreign invaders (pathogens).

• We will learn how  mammals use specific responses to fight off pathogens.

• We will learn to identify and describe the different types of cells used by the immune system to fight off pathogens.  

Closing Task:

You can create a timeline of events in history regarding viruses and immune system research.

You can apply your knowledge of the immune system specific response to kill off pathogen in a simulation.
