Journal Entry:
What other data could be used to determine concentration of an unknown using light besides absorbance?
Learning Intentions
We will learn how to create a calibration curve using a number of dilution of a stock solution, determining the transmittance for each dilution and graphing the data to find a relationship between the two.
We will learn how to interpret the results of an experiment regarding the absorption and transmittance of light to determine the concentration of an absorbing species in a solution.
We will learn how to determine mass of a substance from concentration.
We will learn how concepts from our labs could show up on AP FRQ questions.
Closing Task:
You can apply concepts from our recent labs to AP FRQ questions.
Content Standards being covered:
The interaction of electromagnetic waves or light with matter is a powerful means to probe the structure of atoms and molecules, and to measure their concentration. (EK 1.D.3)
