Journal Entry:
What is the law of conservation of matter? How is it represented in a chemical equation? What are the various types of chemical reactions? What are some ways you distinguish one from another?
Learning Intentions
You will learn how to make both symbolic and particle representations of each type of chemical reaction.
You will learn how to predict what the products of a reaction will be based on the reactants.
You will make sure all you reactions are following the conservation of mass law by balancing appropriately.
Closing Task:
You can classify the type of reaction an equation is by reactants given and predict the products.
Content Standards being covered:
LO 1.17 You can express the law of conservation of mass quantitatively and qualitatively using symbolic representations and particulate drawings.
LO 1.18 You can apply conservation of atoms to the rearrangement of atom in various processes.
SP 1.1 The student can create representations and models of natural or man made phenomena and systems in the domain.
SP 1.4 The student can use representations and models to analyze situations or solve problems qualitatively and quantitatively.
