Journal Entry:
What does the VSEPR stand for in the VSEPR theory? What does the theory describe for a molecule?
Learning Intentions
You will learn what the VSEPR Theory is and how it influences geometry and shape of molecules.
You will learn how to determine shape of a molecule based on its Lewis structure.
You will learn how to determine electron domains on a molecule to identify electron geometry, molecular geometry, bond angles and polarity.
Closing Task
You can draw the Lewis structure of a molecular compound and then identify the electron domains, electron and molecular geometry, bond angles and polarity.
Content Standards being covered:
The localized electron bonding model describes and predicts molecular geometry using Lewis diagrams and the VSEPR model. (EK 2.C.4)
Students are able to use Lewis diagrams and VSEPR to predict the geometry of molecules, identify hybridization and make predictions about polarity. (LO 2.21)
