Wrap up/Launch
Birds that live in estuaries can include both water fowl and shorebirds.
Waterfowl, including ducks, geese, and swans, are birds highly adapted to aquatic environments. They share characteristics like webbed feet for swimming, long necks for reaching food sources, and waterproof plumage. Ducks are also known for their specialized bills for filtering and sorting food items, and males often display iridescent plumage during breeding season.
Shorebirds are a diverse group of birds characterized by their long legs and bills, often associated with coastal and wetland habitats. They are known for their wading behavior and specialized feeding techniques, including probing and filtering for food in mud, water, and on the surface. Many shorebirds also undertake long-distance migrations.
