Bubbles Exploration
Measure 1 spoonful of liquid soap into a cup. Add 50 mL of water. Swirl the cups to mix. Dip the straw into the cup, withdraw it, and blow gently into the straw to make the largest bubble you can. Practice making bubbles until you feel you have reasonable control (precision) over your bubble production.
1) What are some observations you made?
2) Using a concept from this activity, propose one question you want to investigate further.
3) Decide among your group which question you want to investigate. What is your question?
A. Propose a hypothesis that you will test. Make it in an If…then… form.
If this is done, then this will happen.
B. Design an experimental set-up that will give you information in order to answer your hypothesis.
1) What are the steps involved?
2) What materials will you need?
3) What are the variables you need to control? Remember, the only difference can be the one variable you are testing.
4) What data will be collected? How will it be collected? How will it be displayed?
Write the procedure down so you know what you are doing!
C. Perform the experiment. Record data in a table
D. What did you find out (include data in your explanation)? Why do you think you got the results you did? Did your results support your hypothesis? What could have affected your results? How could you apply what you learned in the real world? What new question would you like to explore now?
