Learning Intentions

Content Standards being covered:

Student can create mathematical representations of chemical reactions and use them to make calculations about products and reactants.
162. In a complete, balanced chemical equation, the number of atoms of elements on one side of the chemical equation must match the number of atoms of elements on the other side
163. To balance an equation, one may only add a coefficient to the start of a compound to balance the amount of atoms on either side of the equation
164. The main types of chemical reactions are combustion reactions, combination reactions, decomposition reactions, single displacement reactions, and double displacement reactions
165. A combustion reaction will always have a fuel reacting with O2 to create H2O and CO2
166. In a combination reaction, two reactants combine to form one product
167. In a decomposition reaction, one reaction will break into two or more smaller products
168. In a single displacement reaction, a compound and an element will react to form a new compound and a new element169. In a double displacement reaction, two ionic compounds react to form two different ionic compounds

Habits of Mind/Life skills being covered:

Applying past knowledge to current situations

Journal Entry:

What types of chemical reactions do you remember we have discussed in class?
