What is the difference between valence and core electrons?

Learning Intentions

• We will learn the difference between valence shell electrons and core electrons.

• We will learn the patterns in the periodic table associated with electron arrangements.

• We will learn how to predict the electron arrangement of elements based on its location on the periodic table.

Closing Task:

Using the periodic table and a given atomic number, you can determine element’s name and symbol, the number of valence, core and total electrons, the group and period number and other elements with the same valence electrons.
