Journal Entry:
If a molecule fits into a receptor site in the nose, it seems as if it should smell. Yet most of the molecules in air- O2 (oxygen), N2 (nitrogen), CO2 (carbon dioxide) and Ar (argon)- do not have a smell. What do you think is going on?
Learning Intentions
We will learn the general difference between a polar and nonpolar molecule.
We will learn how to describe the behavior of polar molecules.
We will learn what an intermolecular attraction is.
Closing Task:
You can predict properties based on whether a molecule is polar or not.
