What does the flame give to elements that are put in it? What might be most affected by that?

Learning Intentions

• We will learn how to analyze flame tests to determine what elements are in the substances in the flame.

• We will learn how the flame excites electrons in the atom and when they fall back down to ground or normal state they emit light specific to their electronic structure.

Closing Task:

You can analyze what elements are in a substance by the wavelengths of light given off by the excited electrons.
