Journal Entry:

Pick a metal and non metal from the periodic table. Determine which would be the cation and which would be the anion, write the ion formulas, then write the formula and name when the elements form an ionic compound. What rules did you use?

Learning Intentions

• We will learn how to use valence electrons to predict ionic compounds

• We will learn how to name binary ionic compounds and write their chemical formulas.

You can predict and name which ionic compounds will form and which will not.
