Journal Entry:

What is the charge of the copper ion in CuO? How do you know? What about in CuCl? Why are they different? Look where copper is located on the periodic table.

• We will learn how to determine the charge on transition metal ions given their chemical formula.

You can identify which element in a compound is a transition element and determine the charge of the ion.
