What do you think happened in the experiment to transform an acid molecule and an alcohol molecule into a sweet-smelling molecule?

Learning Intentions

• We will learn learn what happened at a molecular level during the ester synthesis lab.

• We will learn how to predict the product of a reaction between an alcohol and a carboxylic acid.

• We will learn what a chemical reaction is, and identify the parts of one including a catalyst.

Closing Task:

You can predict the structural formula of the products in a chemical reaction by analyzing structure of the reactants.
