Discuss/answer questions about non fiction reading book journal
Discuss what is happening in the picture... general and specific...
How do cells make new cells? brainstorm..
HW: Finish getting started/prelab questions from link above, watch Daily Video 4.7 Regulation of Cell Cycle, Mitosis Video and Mitosis Simulation Video to review stages of Mitosis (Review for Chapter 11, 12, 13, 15 Exam)
MU: Start AP Bio Investigation #7: Cellular Division Mitosis and Meiosis (student copy starts on pg 21) read through the background and take notes (1-2 sentences for each paragraph) for background in lab notebook, answer getting started questions in lab notebook below background and watch linked videos above.
HW: Start Reading Chapter 12 and review Chapter 12 Notes (pgs 1-49) start flashcards for Chapter 11 and 12.
MU: Come in before or after school to do part 1 of lab, watch Movies linked, and do HW.
Turn in on fiction reading book journal
Continue AP Bio Investigation #7: Cellular Division Mitosis and Meiosis: Part 2
Review/Finish Part 1: Modeling Cell Cycle- should have 8 drawings with labels and descriptions for each
Part 2: Counting cells and analyzing data
practice identifying which stage a cell is in using images of prepared slides (click next 3 times to get to activity)
practice counting using Biology Simulation
HW: Finish your Part 1: Modeling Cell Cycle drawings with labels and descriptions and practice identifying stage cell is in using link above.
MU: Come in before or after school to finish/review Part 1: Modeling Cell Cycle. Review and practice identifying which stage a cell is in using images of prepared slides (click next 3 times to get to activity) and Biology Simulation
Continue AP Bio Investigation #7: Cellular Division Mitosis and Meiosis: Part 2
Review Part 1: Cell Cycle Modeling
Part 2: Effect of Environment on Mitosis
Purpose Question (choose one):
What is the effect of the location on the onion root tip on the amount of cells in mitosis? (use prepared slides and microscope)
What is the effect of the chemical put on an onion root tip on the amount of cells in mitosis? (use Biology Simulation)
Make a Hypothesis and Null Hypothesis
Write procedure from linked lab modified for what we did
Observe and draw fish blastula and onion root tip cells and identify the phases each cell is in (make sure you can determine the difference between Interphase and Mitosis)
Copy data table
Start counting how many cells are in interphase and how many are in mitosis for at least one location and record in data table
HW: Finish your drawings of fish and onion root tip cells for part 2 and write hypothesis, null hypothesis and procedure in lab notebook.
MU: Come in before or after school to draw a cell from fish blastula and onion root tip, get purpose questions from someone in class and write hypothesis and null hypothesis and then copy down data table from part 2 in linked handout above.
Continue AP Bio Investigation #7: Cellular Division Mitosis and Meiosis: Part 2
Review Part 2: Effect of Environment on Mitosis-answer questions and discuss concluding statement
count how many are in interphase and how many are in mitosis and record in data table in 2 different positions on the onion root tip
compare your results with another area of the onion root tip by counting how many are in interphase and mitosis in another area of the tip and determine your chi square with your first set of data being your expected percentages.
design a new experiment: Include Purpose Question, Independent Variable, Dependent Variable, Controlled Variables, Control Group and a brief description of how you would test.
Explore Cell Division Gizmo to review
Go to explorelearning.com, login as student with username jspray78, find your password on AP Biology password sheet
What can you do with it? What are its features?
Take assessment
HW: Finish Part 2 of Lab and explore Cell Division Gizmo as explained above if you did not in class.
MU: Come in before or after school to collect data for Part 2 of Cell Cycle Lab Enroll in Gizmo class using appropriate period directions linked above, launch the Cell Division Gizmo and explore, then assessment at bottom of Gizmo, come in and ask questions about Part 2 of Cell Cycle lab, write a concluding statement for Part 2 and Design a new experiment about cell cycle including aspects above, and complete flashcards for non fiction reading assignment.
